Today I’m going to compare the TV, broadband and phone bundles from eir, Sky, Virgin Media and Vodafone and show the true cost and value of each.

Autumn is here and Ireland’s telecoms companies are rolling out some very competitive offers to snap up new customers for the busy TV-viewing season.

Now, TV, broadband and home phone bundles are notoriously difficult to compare like-for-like so today I’m focusing on the three main things customers care about the most – what you get, what it really costs and whether or not there are any exciting sign up offers. And It’s the entry level Tripleplay bundles that I’ll be comparing from each provider.

Let’s start with eir

What do you get?

Well you get unlimited 100 Mb broadband, a home phone plan and over 50 digital TV channels

What does it really cost?

It’s an 18-month contract and costs €25 a month for the first 6 months and €85 a month after that. So, the average monthly cost before your contract ends is €65

Anything special?

You get eir Sport, which comes with 42 live Premier League games for free and €100 cashback

Moving on to Sky

What do you get?

You get unlimited 100 Mb broadband, a home phone plan and over 50 digital channels

What does it really cost?

It’s a 12 month contract and the monthly price is €55 a month for the first 12 months. So that means the average cost over the course of the contract is well, €55

Anything special?

Sky Atlantic, home to the likes of Game of Thrones, is included in the TV channels

Virgin Media

What do you get?

You get unlimited 240 Mb broadband, a home phone plan and over 50 digital channels

What does it really cost?

It’s €40 a month for the first 6 months, rising to €80 a month after that. It’s a 12 month contract so the average monthly cost works out at €60

Anything special?

The Virgin Media app allows you to use your home phone minutes on your mobile and tablet, which is handy

Finally, Vodafone

What do you get?

You get unlimited 100 Mb broadband, a home phone plan and over 50 digital channels

What does it really cost?

It’s €40 a month for the first 6 months, rising to €80 a month after that. It’s an 18 month contract so the average monthly cost works out at €66.66

Anything special?

Yes, you can pick between 6 months free Netflix, eir Sport or multiroom viewing

So there you have it – Sky comes in first place for average monthly price, Virgin Media wins on broadband speed and, well, it’s up to you who wins on special offers.

One thing’s for sure – there are some very competitive offers available right now, which have short life spans so if you like the sound of any of these offers, jump onto bonkers.ie and sign up today
