City shuts down landfill’s northwest slope

A portion of Saskatoon’s landfill is being tossed in the trash.

The city is decommissioning the landfill’s northwest slope, which has reached capacity.

Existing waste will stay on the area, but more than 2,000 truckloads of soil will soon be dumped over the slope. The city says the one metre of compacted soil will reduce odour, litter and potential environmental impacts.

The remainder of the landfill will continue to operate as usual.
