Steps in For Westinghouse Over Ga. Nuclear Project – Construction News
Georgia Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, has announced that it is in talks with Westinghouse (Toshiba Corp.) in regards to taking over management of the Vogtle nuclear construction project. This project includes construction of four nuclear reactors as part of an expansion of the power plant.
Back in March, Westinghouse Electric Co. filed for bankruptcy after project costs ran into the billions at the Georgia site and another nuclear power plant in South Carolina.
With this new agreement in place, Westinghouse will transfer management of the project to Southern Nuclear and Georgia Power allowing construction of the Vogtle plant to continue.
