“CNN Headline News” used to be a channel that would air a 30 minute news broadcast every half hour, giving you all of the days top headlines every 30 minutes. I used to watch the channel a lot in the weeks and months following September 11th, 2001, to stay up with all of the unfolding events in the War on Terror. Now it’s called “HLN” Network and it just airs “Forensic Files” all day long. 🙁

For each 30 minute broadcast, the first 5 to 6 minutes would be the top news stories, and the next 5 to 6 minutes after that would be secondary news stories relevant for that day. Then there would be a financial news segment, a sports segment, and a “Lifestyles” segment (usually a comedy or lighthearted piece) to end the half hour. This clip here captures from 3:41 pm ET to 3:52 pm ET.

This was on April 1st, 2000 (April Fools Day!). Mentioned or features in these segments are such noteable names like Elián González (remember that news story?), Shaquille O’Neal, President Bill Clinton on “Census Day”, the Final Four in the NCAA March Madness tournament, the movies “Erin Brockovich”, “Final Destination”, and “Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai” (remember any of those films?). And the commercials here are great as well (featuring the Incredible Hulk, Terry Bradshaw, and others)!
