Analysis of his final Quicken Loans National round

Analysis of his final Quicken Loans National round

Tiger Woods is back in action this week for the first time since missing the cut at the U.S. Open.

The 14-time major champion is competing in the Quicken Loans National at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm, an event he hosts just outside of Washington, D.C. Tiger shot an even-par 72 on Thursday, a 5-under 65 to climb into contention on Friday and a 2-under 68 on Saturday.

Woods last played the event in 2015 when it was held at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia. He finished in 18th place. He missed the cut the previous year.

Woods tees off at 1:20 p.m. ET alongside Bronson Burgoon. Follow along for shot-by-shot analysis of his second round.

Hole 4 – Par 4

Iron off the tee on No. 4 and Tiger likes it. His ball lands on the right side of the fairway and runs towards the center. Nice shot. He follows that up with a beauty of an 8-iron and sticks it within 10-feet. Another birdie chance for TW.

Hole 3 – Par 3

Playing 225-yards today, Tiger finds the green but he’s nowhere near the hole. Not much to say here, two putt par from distance. 1-under thru 3 (8-under for the tournament).

Hole 2 – Par 5

Another drive here on the lone par 5 on the front nine, and Tiger loses this one a little right in the rough. He’ll probably have to lay-up from here, but then again we’re talking about Tiger Woods, so who knows what he’ll do. Of course he goes for it with 3-wood, but he goes a little left with this one. He’s in the long fescue with a bunker between his ball and the green but he’s going aggressive today. He pitches this one perfectly, landing the ball on the green and letting it run towards the hole within a few feet. That’s an easy birdie on No. 2 for Tiger. 1-under thru 2 (8-under for the tournament).

Leaderboard update: Abrahm Ancer and Francesco Molinari have yet to tee off but are still the leaders at 13-under par, followed by Zac Blair and Ryan Armour at 11-under and Andrew Landry at 10-under.

Hole 1 – Par 4

And we’re off once again. Tiger goes driver off the tee here and lands it in the rough but it kicks out into the fairway. Not really sure what happened here as Tiger’s wedge lands well short of the green. Weird start. Tiger’s chip comes up short of the hole from the fringe, leaving some work to do to save par. He converts, avoiding a bogey on No. 1 like yesterday. Even thru 1 (7-under for the tournament).
