This shows the weather for all of 2010 for the “lower 48” states. The larger radar map is an overlay of the NOAA national composite radar image on a part of the NASA Blue Marble image of Earth. Low-value radar returns are removed to rid the animation of noise, and the whole thing is projected into the same equal-area map projection used by the National Atlas. News report on a twister that hit Caroline, Alberta on July 13, 2001, just shy of the one year anniversary of the Pine Lake Tornado. One interesting note to add, our area was actually hit much harder than what was shown, having been hit with three strong cells, one after another over a 2 hour period.
