Joan Collins and her husband had a difficult weekend when a fire broke out at their London apartment on Saturday.

The actress’ rep, Jeffrey Lane, said Collins and husband Percy Gibson “escaped safely but very shaken and upset.”

Lane said Gibson used a fire extinguisher to keep the fire in check while Collins phoned for help. He added, “Joan is doing fine today.”

The 85-year-old actress took to Twitter Sunday to share her gratitude to first responders, saying, “THANK U from the bottom of my (heart) to the marvelous @LondonFire who attended to the terrifying fire yesterday in our flat.”

She added, “My hero Percy had already doused the flames consuming the entire wall with handheld extinguisher” before warning others not to “take the risk” by staying when a building is on fire.

She followed that with a second tweet thanking EMTs “who took care of our smoke inhalation and comforted me. And the wonderful @metpoliceuk who kept the street closed and everyone safe.”

She also posted a short video clip to Instagram captioned, “The remains of the day…see my recent #tweet Thank you @londonfirebrigade.” In the video, you can hear someone say “Oh, god” as the camera pans extensive fire damage.

The BBC reported 10 firefighters battled a blaze in a first-floor apartment at a seven-story building in the Belgravia section of London. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told the outlet that the fire was deemed non-suspicious.
