Canadian convicted of terrorism in U.S. gets 40 years in prison

Canadian Abdulrahman El Bahnasawy was sentenced Wednesday to 40 years in federal prison for plotting to attack Times Square and the New York subway.

U.S. prosecutors has asked for life in prison, while the defence argued he should only receive four or five years and get treatment for mental health and drug addictions issues.

The judge said the sentence took those issues into account but was necessary for the severity of his crimes.
